High-end MacBook Pro and Mac Mini Equipped with M3 Chip Expected to Launch in 2024
July 26th,2023

Earlier, there were rumors that the M3 chip would be first introduced on a 15-inch MacBook Air in April 2023. However, this clearly didn’t happen.

In the latest issue of the "Power On" newsletter, Gurman mentioned that Apple is developing an M3 version of the Mac mini, but the company is not in a hurry to release it. The product may not hit the market until the end of next year or later. Similarly, the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will not feature the M3 chip in October this year, but rather the M3 Pro and M3 Max chips, which are expected to be released no later than mid-2024.

Gurman pointed out that the M2 version of the Mac mini was released over two years after the launch of the M1 version, indicating that Apple does not consider the Mac mini as a device that needs to be updated annually. In contrast, the high-end MacBook Pro, being a more popular device, has an update cycle of approximately four to five quarters.

Last week, Gurman mentioned that the first Mac equipped with the M3 chip could potentially be launched as early as October this year, with the initial models possibly including the 13-inch MacBook Pro, 13-inch MacBook Air, and 24-inch iMac. It is widely speculated that the M3 chip, compared to the current devices using the 5nm-based M2 chip, will utilize TSMC’s 3nm manufacturing process, resulting in significantly improved performance and energy efficiency.
